AI Will Reshape the Patient Experience

Written by Peter Horadan | Jul 24, 2026 7:40:48 PM

AI is moving beyond giving patients advice. It's about to start acting on it. In a new op-ed for MedCity News, Vouched CEO Peter Horadan explores what happens when patients start asking their AI chatbot to book appointments, request prescription refills, or talk directly to their doctor's AI on their behalf.

As Horadan puts it, AI is making us all rethink healthcare, and quickly. That shift raises urgent new identity questions for providers. How do you confirm a patient actually authorized an AI to act for them? How do you tell a legitimate AI assistant from a scam? And how do you let patients grant an AI limited permissions, like booking appointments but not viewing medical history, without violating HIPAA?

Horadan also digs into the darker side of this shift: deepfake voice cloning is already sophisticated enough to fool a health system's call center into resetting a password for an imposter, opening the door to stolen medical records and even tampered test results. It's a real and rising threat, and one that traditional security measures like OTP codes weren't built to stop.

The good news, according to Horadan, is that solutions are already taking shape. He points to emerging frameworks like the Linux Foundation's Know Your Agent OS and Mobile Driver's Licenses (already issued by dozens of states) as the foundation for a new identity model, one built to stop deepfake-driven account takeovers and give healthcare organizations a way to safely say "yes" to the AI era.
